The Battle for a Soul

I’ve heard before “life is a journey” and I still believe that.  Our relationship with God isn’t a destination here on earth, it really is a journey because we have so much to learn. It’s a constant discovery of truth, or seeing a truth more clearly.  I also have to be honest and say “I see life as a battle”.  It feels a little pessimistic saying that, but scripture says in  Eph 6 “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, and against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God…”  Later in the chapter we see words like truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the spirit, praying always, watching etc… There is no doubt that a battle is being fought. This was written to believers.  I wish life here was likened more to a celebration or homecoming.  It’s not, but we do have that to look forward to in heaven.  🙂  We are never immune to this fight.  The fortress of protection from battle is in the next life.  Salvation on earth is just the starting place, not the ending.  My soul is being fought over…always.  The battle started the day I knew I was a sinner in need of saving.  The battle for my soul started there.  Once I experienced the God of salvation, the battle changed.  What was once a battle for my eternal destiny became a battle for my earthly integrity. In a world where spirits are alive

It’s there the battle rages in a war for life

In the air above the soul, light and darkness collide

Truth and lies swirling, life is on the line

Please God, with this prayer

Send angels with a shield

Give your power and strength

So darkness is stilled

Call angels to your throne for a mission of hope

I’m bowed in surrender

drowning in this death

I know your whisper can thunder

Truth for my breath
